Ryan and Lauren are here!!!

"When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world." - John 16:21
Well, today was our day of joy, because we had two human beings born into the world!

Ryan Shelby and Lauren Olivia were born at 11:40am (CST) on November 3, 2008.

Ryan (left) was 18.5 inches long and weighed 5lbs, 13oz.
Lauren (right) was 18 inches long and weigned 5lbs flat.

Nina and I arrived at the doctor's office at 9:10am this morning. We met with the doctor around 9:30 and two hours later, Ryan and Lauren were born. Praise God! It was a little surprising that it was actually today, and it all happend so fast, but we are extremely excited.

The good news...since Lauren weighed 5lbs even, she did not end up having to go to the NICU after all! She had low blood sugar early on, as did Ryan, but things are normal now and she is just fine. Thanks to those of you who prayed earnestly.

The not as good news...Ryan was actually the one who ended up in the NICU. He was admitted for two reasons: First, his blood sugar was low and was not improving after the intial treatments. Secondly, he was not holding down any of his food. Ryan's blood sugar levels have since improved to normal levels, however, he is still a little sick. The doctors did an x-ray and concluded that he has too much air in his little tummy, one of the side-effect of being born by C-section. This shouldn't be anything serious, but it will take a little time to pass so they are keeping him in the NICU over night and have given him an IV to sustain him. Please pray for a quick recovery, so that he can be reunited with his little sister.

Nina did great through the entire procedure. Everything went really smooth and we are looking forward to a speedy recovery for her. Hopefully we'll get to go home later this week.

I'll post some more photos and/or videos as I get the time, but here's a few to tie you over.
